NAFSA Region V Annual Conference Grants

Los Angeles, CA May 27 – June 2, 2017

Region V has designated $2,500 to be awarded as Annual Conference Grants for those who may not be receiving complete or any financial support from their institutions to attend the conference. There are five grants available and each grant is $500. Awards are given to subsidize expenses associated with travel and/or conference registration, and preference will be given to those either presenting and/or not receiving full or partial institutional funding.>

NAFSA Region V 2017 Conference Grants

Detroit, MI October 18 – 20, 2017

Each year, NAFSA Region V designates funds to be awarded as Region V Conference Grants for those who may not receive full, or even partial, financial support from their institutions to attend the conference. The grants will cover full or partial conference registration; the number of eligible applicants selected to receive a grant will determine award amount. Awardees will be notified before the end of early bird registration and will receive a comp code to cover full or partial registration costs. Please wait to register for the conference until you are notified whether you are a grant recipient.

Eligibility & Application for Regional Conference Grants:

Grants are intended to encourage conference participation from NAFSA members and non-members alike, and from a variety of professionals in the field of international education – both newcomers and veterans. Anyone attending the full conference is eligible to apply. Preference will be given to those who have not previously attended a Region V conference and to presenters who have not previously presented at a Region V conference. 2017 Marilyn Boyd Foreign Born International Educator (FBIE) Award

Region V is pleased to announce it has designated a $400 award for an FBIE (Foreign Born International Educator) to recognize the contributions the person has made to the field of international education and to encourage FBIE participation in the Region V Conference. The award may be used to cover travel, meals, and/or accommodation. Preference will be given to first-time attendees and international students wishing to enter the field of international education.

Eligibility & Application for Marilyn Boyd FBIE Award:

Applicants must have been born outside of the United States. The award amount will be determined by the number of eligible applicants selected to receive a grant. Funds will be awarded after the conference and will be mailed to recipients after attending. Anyone attending the full conference is eligible to apply (NAFSA member or non-member).

2017 NAFSA Region V Awards

NAFSA Region V is pleased to announce nominations are now open for the Patti Jones Award for Outstanding Leadership and the New Professional Award. Both awards include a $250 award to the recipient.

Patti Jones Award for Outstanding Leadership in Region V

The Patti Jones Award for Outstanding Leadership is named in honor of Patti Jones (Western Illinois University), who has provided many years of service to Region V and the Region V team. The award is presented in recognition of outstanding leadership, contributions, and dedication to Region V, the regional leadership team, and to the internationalization of American higher education. To be eligible, the recipient must:

  • Be a member of NAFSA;
  • Have provided outstanding contributions to the health, growth, and well-being of Region V;
  • Have a deep commitment and dedication to the region and its members;
  • Have provided mentoring and support to individuals within Region V; and
  • Be an individual whose service to the region has resulted in increased professionalism and enhanced services to international and U.S. students.

The application deadline is September 22, 2017.

Region V New Professional Award

Established by the Region V team in 2014, the New Professional Award recognizes an individual in the region who is new to the field of international education, and who has made an outstanding contribution to international education through his or her enthusiasm, potential for leadership, and actual accomplishments at his or her institution or community and Region V. To be eligible, the individual may have no more than three years of experience in the field.

The application deadline is September 22, 2017.

NAFSA Region V Advocacy Day Grants

NAFSA Region V is proud to announce that it offered two $1,000 grants to individuals in the region to attend NAFSA's Advocacy Day, which will was held in Washington, D.C., on March 13-14, 2017. This award was given in the form of a reimbursement and is meant to cover an individual's registration fees and travel expenses directly related to attendance.
