This is the sixth and final session in Series III of Architecture for Global Learning and is part of the Spring Group: Global Learning for Your Goals. Learn about our other Spring Group sessions: Global Learning for Career Education and Global Learning Beyond the Classroom.

This AGL session explores assessment of global learning for accreditation standards, even as those standards are still sometimes being defined. Institutional administrators and faculty of discipline specific programs are challenged to know where and how their campus or department's global learning initiatives respond to education policy reforms, student and community expectations, and pedagogical advances that meet accreditation requirements.

Presenters discuss their own experiences and offer models of approaches to leveraging global learning assessment that meet accreditation requirements. Those who manage, or are involved with the assessment of global learning curricula or co-curricular activities, and who also need to better understand how this assessment process supports accreditation will benefit from this session.

Session Objectives:

  • Present examples of assessment of global learning that contributes to the accreditation process;
  • Outline where global or international programs offices contribute to accreditation and accreditation review;
  • Discuss different institutional or discipline specific approaches of including global learning assessment towards accreditation standards;
  • Examine the challenges of communicating or highlighting the importance of global learning related programming to assessment offices or accrediting bodies;
  • Provide handouts for participants to consider when comparing their own assessment/accreditation processes with that of the presenters'.

Brett CameronH.E. Brett Cameron, Goodwill Ambassador
IIMSAM, United Nations
Brett Cameron is an Executive Board Member at the Council for International Accreditation of Architecture & Design (CIAAD), and was recently appointed as a Goodwill Ambassador to a division of the United Nations (IIMSAM). Brett is an “Experience Master planner”, has a master’s in design and a 25-year international design career extending from Asia to the Middle-East and Europe. He is also a two-time winner of the prestigious Singapore Presidents’ Design Award, and actively participated as juror in distinctive design panels from academia to professional practice. He has created brand environments across all platforms of experience design including retail, luxury corporate events, international sporting events, museums, traveling exhibitions, brand activation, mixed use property development and theme parks. Some notable clients include the Cannes Red Bull Air Race, Universal Studios Singapore, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix, Youth Olympic Games, BMW Group, Etihad Museum Dubai, National Museum of Singapore, Chanel, LVMH, Khaadi Fashion and Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam. Currently based in Dubai, Brett previously led a network of 350 designers across 20 studios in Asia and dedicates time to working with industry associations and universities to support the next generation of creatives.

Michael MilliganMichael K. J. Milligan, PhD, PE, CAE
ABET
Michael K. J. Milligan is the Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of ABET, the global accreditor of college and university programs in applied & natural science, computing, engineering and engineering technology. Under his leadership, the organization has increased its geographical reach and diversity, now representing 36-member societies and accredited programs in 32 countries. Prior to joining ABET in 2009, Milligan held various leadership positions in government and academia. He also served 24 years as a career U.S. Air Force officer. Milligan has a doctorate degree from the University of Texas at Austin, a master’s from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, and a bachelor’s from Michigan State University—all in electrical engineering. He also earned an M.B.A. from Western New England College, is a registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Colorado and Maryland and a Certified Association Executive (CAE).
