Traveling to Washington, D.C.

Airport Information

There are three major airports in the Washington, D.C. region: Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (airport code: DCA), Washington Dulles International Airport (airport code: IAD), and Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (airport code: BWI). All three offer multiple U.S. and international flights daily.

Traveling to D.C. from the Airport

The closest airport to D.C. is Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. Located just across the Potomac river in Virginia, the airport is accessible by its own metro stop (Yellow and Blue lines), and is a $15-$20 taxi into D.C.. Washington Dulles International Airport is located 26 miles outside of D.C. in suburban Virginia. The Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport is located about an hour away in Baltimore, Maryland. Car

Washington, D.C. is a metropolitan city with ample public transportation options, however if you have chosen to drive you can find detailed driving directions to the Walter E. Washington Convention Center (located in downtown D.C.) on the Events DC website.

Need a place to park? There are over 3000 parking spaces within a thee block radius of the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. These spaces are available on a first come, first serve basis. View a PDF parking map of the area.

Train & Bus Information

D.C.'s Union Station (WAS) is served by METRO, Amtrak, MARC and VRE commuter railroads, and is the main bus terminal of Washington, D.C.. Visit the Union Station website for additional information about travelling through this historic and iconic transportation hub.

Traveling to Washington, D.C. from Abroad

If you are not a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident you may require a nonimmigrant visa to enter the United States. Nonimmigrant visas are for international travelers coming to the U.S. temporarily. To request a letter of invitation for NAFSA 2019 Annual Conference & Expo, please submit your request.

Transportation Within Washington, D.C.

The Walter E. Washington Convention Center is located between 7th and 9th Streets and N Street and Mt. Vernon Place in downtown D.C., right across from Carnegie Library at Mt. Vernon Square. Detailed directions to the convention center are available on the Events DC website.

NAFSA Accessbility Conference Shuttle
