Journal Format for Study and Service Learning Abroad

The objective of this project was to produce a guide, Charting a Hero's Journey, to the writing of journals by students engaged in study and service-learning overseas, based on the work of Joseph Campbell, documenting the twelve stages of the classic hero's journey and using illustrations of the twelve stages' excerpts from outstanding authors who traveled to new cultures.

The guide assisted students in developing a broader and deeper view of themselves as they venture to programs of study abroad.

It was intended to instill in them the idea that their study abroad experience is meant to deepen their understanding of international and intercultural issues, and to further their development as individual adults, able to function successfully in a multicultural setting.
