International Education Week at Loyola Marymount University

International Education Week (IEW) at Loyola Marymount University (LMU) was proposed to create an ongoing annual program to foster mutual exploration of issues and possibilities facing all people through the interaction of international and U.S. students, faculty, staff, and community members.

IEW began with a celebration of Indonesian culture. The Indonesians at LMU were in attendance, as well as officials from the Indonesian Consulate. Indonesian food was provided and LMU's Indonesian musical group performed.

The highlight of the week was visiting two local elementary schools. These visits gave LMU students the opportunity to demonstrate the cultural differences and demonstrate the similarities between the cultures they represented and the United States. Thirty-three LMU international and study abroad students made presentations to 1100 school children. Everyone involved enjoyed the visits.

Other events were a world issues forum, where international professors spoke about current issues in the countries/areas they represented, and a world celebration for everyone.
