Culture in the Country

The basic premise of this program was to provide international students at Wake Forest University with the opportunity to break out of the so-called "campus bubble" and interact with members of the surrounding rural communities.

International students were taken to various churches located throughout the rural areas of North Carolina and given the chance to speak, perform, and answer questions that were posed by members of the various congregations.

The programs consisted primarily of four or five students from different countries who were responsible for giving a short speech to the congregation. The content of the speeches ranged anywhere from daily life in their home countries to experiences they have had during their time in the United States. Potluck meals were provided by the churches, and this provided the students the opportunity to socialize with members of the congregation.
