Inroads

"Inroads" is a partnership in cross-cultural communication between the American Language Institute (ALI) and the Neighborhood School (NS), a public elementary school on Manhattan's Lower East Side.

Through interactive drama workshops and cross-cultural exchanges, "Inroads" assisted international ESL students and neighborhood children in increasing their cultural awareness, building their communication skills, enhancing their self-esteem, and serving the community.

There were 34 events provided with eight events for each pair of classes: three cross-cultural visits; three drama workshops for ALI students in resolving communication conflicts; one similar workshop for NS children, and one joint drama workshop that focused on both appreciating other cultures and enhancing communication.
