International Students and Scholars Engaged in Reaching Out and Volunteering
As part of the I-SSERV (International Students and Scholars Engaged in Reaching Out and Volunteer) program, 89 international scholars and students volunteered over 650 hours Between August and May in the Raleigh, North Carolina community.Organizations receiving volunteers included the N.C. Food Bank, Habitat for Humanity, SafeChild, Shepherd's Table Soup Kitchen, Service Raleigh, and Building Together (helping at-risk children).
Highlights included group projects at the Food Bank and for Habitat for Humanity as well as the orientations at the beginning of each semester in which participants explored various aspects of U.S. culture related to volunteerism.
The end-of-semester follow-up meetings as well as the end-of-year banquet were wonderful ways to celebrate the impact that the international participants made on the Raleigh area.
