The Best of the South

OIP implemented the project "Exploring the Best of the South: Utilizing a Multi-ethnic Approach to Developing an Understanding and Appreciation of Southern Culture."

This was an extraordinary project that provided an excellent opportunity for Jackson State University's international students to discover and explore cultural and historical sites in Mississippi and Louisiana along with their U.S. colleagues. It also provided an opportunity for international and U.S. students to interact and gain valuable insight into each other's cultures.

Students attended five prominent attractions: Mississippi's Choctaw Indian Fair; Cajun Country in Lafayette, LA; Mississippi Delta and Delta Blues Museum; New Orleans, LA; and Jubilee!Jam in Jackson, MS. These events showcased the rich and historical culture of the south that includes music of all styles (blues, jazz, rhythm & blues, and Cajun); arts and crafts; and food.
