Wheels of Government

The intent of this program was to give international students and U.S. students exposure to the United States' form of government, values, beliefs, and democratic ideals and a greater understanding of the United States' three branches of government at the local and state level.

The methodology was a series of visits and trips to local and state government institutions and related discussions/meetings designed to add both historical and cultural context for the outings.

Outings included:
  • Gadsden City Hall - meeting with mayor to talk about city government;
  • Gadsden City Council Meeting - met members of the city council and discussed their role;
  • Etowah County Courthouse - meet with district judges to discuss U.S. judicial system;
  • Overnight trip to the state capitol with several activities; and
  • Visit to the Civil Rights Museum.
