About NAFSA
Kent: From State to the Globe
The goal of this project was to develop and deliver an ongoing series of 60- to 90-minute seminars and workshops designed to facilitate greater understanding of international concerns and the internationalization process for faculty, staff, and students throughout the eight-campus Kent State University system.More specifically, the series aimed to engage an increasing number of faculty and staff in welcoming international students to our campuses, to provide faculty and staff with greater understanding of the needs and experience of our increasing international student population, and to encourage domestic students to consider including an international experience in their education.
Objectives
- To improve the skills of faculty and staff communicating across cultures and in understanding the international student and scholar experience.
- To improve faculty understanding of the processes and experiences of teaching and learning across cultures.
- To increase understanding and involvement of faculty and staff in the recruitment and retention of international students.
- To increase student and faculty awareness and participation in study abroad. Each workshop was designed to engage participants in active exercises and interactions around each topic.
Workshops were then offered on a monthly basis on the Kent campus and regional campuses throughout the remainder of the 2005–2006 academic year.
