How to Create a Sustainable Study Abroad Program

This project of SUNY-Cortland created workshops and a manual on how to create a sustainable study abroad program. The insight from these workshops assisted colleagues in assessing new overseas program proposals. Participants also acquired useful conceptual and logistical skills for creating quality programs abroad.

During International Education Week a four-part video conference was presented to faculty and staff on the campuses of the collaborating institutions. Post-conference the "How to Create a Sustainable Study Abroad Program" manual was given to all participants in implement with their respective programs.

  • Further develop participants' understanding of the importance of best practices policies and procedures, to streamline administrative tasks, to ensure academic integrity of programs, and above all, ensure the safety of students studying abroad
  • Offer a "how-to" manual and forms that are easily adaptable to individual campuses
