Liberal Arts Institutions: Small and Residential IIG
Post-Conference Update
Welcome to a year of new activities for the Liberal Arts Institutions: Small and Residential Interest Group!
Please join me in expressing sincere appreciation to Krittika for her leadership over the last year and for providing a solid foundation on which the
LAI: S&R Interest Group will move forward. The 2008 NAFSA conference is behind us and in preparation for the year ahead, I felt it might be useful to include the goals for the group defined in the original petition for LAI:S&R.
• To facilitate communication among members via a listserv, including general networking and coordination of gatherings of our members at the annual NAFSA conference and/or other venues.
• To assure that topics of interest to small, residential liberal arts colleges are included and to promote the liberal arts perspective on higher education at NAFSA conferences.
• To educate Education/USA constituents about our unique mission and services
• To share data from our members that would help us advocate for the liberal arts and to inform our decision-making.
With these goals in mind I would like to identify some of the potential projects we could address in 2008-09.
I encourage all members, both those new to the group this year and interested members from last year to submit proposals for the 2009 NAFSA conference in Los Angeles. You can review the call for proposals at http://www.nafsa.org/_/File/_/nafsa_08confprogram.pdf
The deadline for proposals is August 1, 2008 and the deadline for posters is November 14, 2008.
At the annual meeting following the NAFSA luncheon there were a number of suggestions for proposals which might also serve as suggestions if anyone is interested in presenting at his/her Region Conference.
Please consider possible candidates for the keynote speaker at the Liberal Art Luncheon for NAFSA 2009. Those present at the luncheon this year were fortunate to hear the address by AACU President, Carol Geary Schneider.
I look forward to working with you in the year ahead.
Best,
Sally
