About NAFSA
Strategic Focus Areas
NAFSA's leadership structure was redesigned throughout 2004 and 2005. Leadership groups now focus on one of the three areas listed below. NAFSA organizes its annual strategic plan around these strategic focus areas.

The knowledge communities also sponsor Professional Networks to help members meet and exchange ideas and strategies with others in their line of work. Members can access networks via the Web, and serve as tailored portals to NAFSA’s knowledge base as well as virtual "meeting places" for colleagues.

NAFSA's membership has been growing steadily since its formation in 1948. Today, 9,000 individuals from 94 countries are part of this community of educators.
Effective governance and coordination
NAFSA is led by a Board of Directors who guides its work through a strategic planning process. Governance policies and statements include bylaws and standing rules, reports from the Board, and the diversity statement. Member committees, knowledge communities, and task forces fulfill the objectives of the strategic plan to create and disseminate knowledge, influence public policy, and maintain a strong organization.

Using technology to support member services and involvement in leadership groups, the association promotes communication and coordination.

1. Creating and Disseminating Knowledge
Five member-led knowledge communities facilitate the creation and dissemination of information and training that allows international educators to build their expertise.The knowledge communities also sponsor Professional Networks to help members meet and exchange ideas and strategies with others in their line of work. Members can access networks via the Web, and serve as tailored portals to NAFSA’s knowledge base as well as virtual "meeting places" for colleagues.
