Getting Started

Access to the Manual is available through Principal User Licenses and Additional User Licenses. The basic unit of sale is the one-year Principal User License, which gives a single individual access to the Manual for the duration of the license. The Principal User License holder can also purchase optional Additional User Licenses, and assign them to others at his or her institution by an easy process, done in the user-friendly "My Account" section of the Adviser's Manual Online.

Additional User License designees will have access to the NAFSA Adviser's Manual for the same amount of time as the Principal User License holder. Only individuals who have a NAFSA Username and Password can be assigned as an additional user. You don't have to be a NAFSA member to have a NAFSA Username and Password.

Don't already have a Username? Create one at www.nafsa.org/createlogin.

The Principal User License holder and those whom he or she has assigned to Additional User Licenses will access the Manual using their standard NAFSA ID and password that's used for all other purposes on the NAFSA site. No other special passwords or Web access certificates are needed. Just go to the NAFSA Web site at www.nafsa.org, log in to the site, and click on the Adviser's Manual button in the left navigation menu.

Updates to the Manual

Changes to laws and policies, as well as new insights in areas of practice, may lead to revision of the Adviser’s Manual Online content. Content revision is a process, and often requires research, analysis, clarification from the government, and consultation with content experts, before changes to the Adviser's Manual Online are made. While the analysis takes place, you will be made aware of changes that impact the content of the Manual by news items posted on the Manual's online news and updates page.

When content changes are uploaded to the Manual, both Principle User License holders and Additional User license holders will receive an e-mail notification, hyperlinks to the changed sections are located at the beginning of each chapter and are compiled at the beginning of Chapter One. A summary of the changes is also announced in NAFSA.news. Here is a list of the most recent changes.

Paper Copies of the Manual

Given the pace and scope of changes in law, policy, practice, and our own understanding of these changes, a Web-based product was selected as the best way to meet our responsibility to provide the most accurate and up-to-date information. At the same time, we recognize that some of our customers may want to have a print version, so we offer an annual Desk Edition option, a single copy of which can be purchased only by current Principle User License holders.
