Getting Around

Neat and orderly in its conception, D.C. was designed in a simple grid pattern. Lettered streets run east to west and numbered streets run north to south, crisscrossed by broad avenues named for states. Bus and rail lines connect hotels and meeting facilities with all neighborhoods and points of interest.

Metrorail and Metrobus The Circulator Georgetown Metro Connection
The Metro's five rail lines connect Washington, D.C. with Maryland and Virginia, and handle more than 200 million trips per year. The base subway fare is $1.65 and the base bus fare is $1.35, and transfers are $0.45.

Launched in 2005, the Circulator is D.C.'s newest transportation option, connecting the Washington Convention Center to Georgetown, Union Station, Capitol Hill, and the National Mall. The cost is $1.00/ride.

The Georgetown Metro Connection was established to link the popular neighborhood with the Metrorail system. Fares are $1.00 or $0.35 with a Metrorail transfer.
