Toward Globally Competent Pedagogy
Wednesday, May 30, 10:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
Thursday, May 31, 7:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
Houston, Texas
Join deans, principals, faculty members, and other international educators and explore ways to prepare globally competent teachers in schools and departments of education. Through collaborative discussions, participants in this two-day program will articulate the markers of content knowledge and best practice among teachers in K-12 classrooms focused on building global competence, and then consider how that competence can be developed in teacher education programs. Presentations by leaders in the field and video samples of globally competent teaching will stimulate the discussions. A key resource for the colloquium is the CCSSO and the Asia Society book, Educating for Global Competence: Preparing our Youth to Engage the World.
Participants will leave with strategies for curriculum transformation and ways to help build students’ capacity to grasp global and cross-cultural issues, allowing them to teach effectively in today’s multicultural environment. Whether you're beginning to internationalize, or looking to deepen your practice, this event is for you.
Return to your institution with best practices and new strategies and a network of engaged colleagues.
You should attend:
- If you are charged with developing strategic internationalization plans or incorporating a global perspective into the teacher education curriculum.
- If you are a dean, faculty member, or program director from a school or department of education.
- If you support field work for preservice teachers to deepen their global competence.
- If you want to understand more about internationalization of teacher education and contribute your ideas.
