4:00 p.m.-5:30 p.m.

Rick Steves—author of more than 50 European travel guidebooks and host of the popular public television series, Rick Steves' Europe—believes that thoughtful travel expands our world view and shapes how we address the challenges confronting our world.

Rick Steves grew up in Edmonds, Washington, and attended the University of Washington. Since 1973, he has spent 120 days a year—one third of his adult life—living out of a suitcase in Europe. This experience has shaped his thinking and sparked his commitment to social activism, a topic he reflects on in his most recent book, Travel as a Political Act.

Today Steves employs 80 people at his Europe Through the Back Door headquarters, where he produces more than 50 guidebooks on European travel, the most popular travel series in America on public television, a weekly hour-long national public radio show, and a weekly column syndicated by the Chicago Tribune.
