Legal limitations and institutional practices may add to these challenges. Effective strategies, using case study examples, will familiarize participants with best practices in addressing parental concerns.

Joined the field of international education 25 years ago and is currently the University of California Systemwide Education Abroad Program principal policy analyst. Her primary responsibilities are to oversee safety, security, students-with-disabilities, and health-related matters. DeRomaña is chair of the NAFSA Association of International Educator's Health and Safety Subcommittee and a member of NAFSA's Interassociational Advisory Council on Safety and Responsibility in Study Abroad.

Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs for Semester at Sea and the Institute for Shipboard Education, has 21 years of higher education experience, primarily in senior Student Affairs leadership. Mike served as a senior administrator on three Semester at Sea voyages before joining the Institute in 2006.
