The International Educator as an Interculturalist
Audience: Experienced professionals in the field of International Education
This eight-hour workshop is intended for experienced professionals and designed to address communication and conflict resolution styles as well as issues of adaptation that go beyond the w-curve with applications to specific areas of international education. It will also provide a new approach to cross-cultural ethical dilemmas. This workshop builds on the basic concepts in intercultural communication and presumes that participants are familiar with concepts related to culture, cultural values, nonverbal communication, cultural stereotypes and are able to use the D.I.E. and DMIS models. Lectures, exercises, video, and other experiential methods will be used in the workshop.

Workshop Objectives
- Review the key fundamental concepts in intercultural communication with which participants are already familiar
- Assist participants in applying the theory of intercultural communication to the practice of intercultural education
- Introduce a new set of concepts and introduce intercultural skills that can be applied to working in any position within the field of international education
- Engage participants in using new knowledge and skills so that they can begin to integrate them into their repertoire of “tools” that can be applied in their professional work
