1. What is the Trainer Corps?
Trainer Corps is a group of NAFSA members selected to represent NAFSA by delivering one or more of NAFSA's Core Education Program (CEP) workshops, which include Foundations (FDN) or Professional Practice workshops (PPW).
2. What positions does it include?
- Workshop Dean - Manages and contributes to the development, revision, and revamping of CEP workshop curriculum.
- Lead Trainer - Leads a workshop delivery team at annual conference, regional conference, or On-Demand workshop and ensures the overall quality of workshop delivery.
- Trainer Corps Member - Serves as a trainer and/or table moderator for workshop delivery for up to 2 workshops each year, for a 3-year term.
CEP workshops are offered at the NAFSA annual conference, regional conferences, On-Demand Workshops, and Summer Institute.
4. What is the Trainer Corps term?
The term is three years. After three years, Trainer Corps members may reapply for available positions.
5. How do I apply to be a Trainer Corps member?
Each December, the Trainer Corps application form with the year's call for members is posted on the NAFSA Web site. Applications are due February 1. Selections are made by early March.
6. What happens if I am accepted as a Trainer Corps member?
New Trainer Corps members are expected to complete the introductory Train the Trainer workshop at the following NAFSA annual conference. They should also complete the Advanced Train the Trainer workshop during their three-year term. Both Train the Trainer workshops are held at the annual conference concurrently with preconference workshops. You should not plan to be on a workshop team the first conference after you are accepted into Trainer Corps so that you can participate in the training.
7. How many workshops will I train a year?
As a Trainer Corps member, you could be called upon to train up to two workshops a year. At a minimum, you are expected to be on one training team during your three-year term.
8. How are available Trainer Corps positions determined?
New Trainer Corps members are recruited based on NAFSA’s national and regional training needs. Each year, the list of planned CEP workshops is compared to the expertise and geographic distribution of Trainer Corps members. New Trainer Corps members are recruited to fill the gap.
9. Who decides who will be accepted into Trainer Corps?
The knowledge community (KC) representatives on the Training Coordination Subcommittee (TCS) evaluate the applications received for their KC’s workshops. Regional leaders are also asked to provide input about Trainer Corps applicants.
10. Can I train a workshop at the Annual Conference if I am in a NAFSA leadership position?
No. NAFSA members who are committed to leadership positions are not eligible to train at workshops during NAFSA's Annual Conference. These leaders are required to attend leadership meetings that take place at the same time as the preconference workshops at the association's conference.
