The Fulbright Programs
The Fulbright Program sponsored by the U.S. Department of State offers scholarships for U.S. students, international students, international and U.S. faculty and scholars and U.S. institutions. This link to the Institute of International Education (IIE) Fulbright page provides information about the student programs IIE itself administers. As a comprehensive site, IIE's web page links in turn to the programs for scholars and institutions administered by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES), and to the U.S. State Department's information about the programs.
National Endowment for the Humanities
International dimensions of the humanities can be supported through the National Endowment of the Humanities (NEH) through such programs as the challenge grants, fellowships and faculty research, curriculum development, summer seminars and institutes, translation projects and special program categories that encourage the understanding of the humanities in designated countries.
National Science Foundation (NSF)
The National Science Foundation (NSF) offers an impressive range of funding opportunities with potential for international education. Several programs of particular note are:
The National Security Education Program (NSEP)
Funds undergraduate and graduate fellowships and scholarships for study abroad to learn languages and acquire expertise about world regions that have been designated as critical to U.S. security. Additional programs offer grants to U.S. institutions for the development of educational programs in countries, languages and international fields designated as critical to U.S. security.
USAID
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) extends assistance to countries for economic growth, agriculture and trade; health; and democratic development, conflict prevention and humanitarian assistance. The Higher Education for Development program is a particularly useful section of this Web site with valuable information about services to coordinate the engagement of the higher education community with U.S international development initiatives. USAIDopportunities are announced at the procurement Web site .
