Come to the Summer Institute from July 17 through 19, 2008, at the Big Ten Conference Center in Chicago, Illinois, and complete one or two of NAFSA Core Education Program workshops designed to bring you up to speed on important education abroad or international student and scholar issues.

Choose from a one or two day workshop relating to either Foundations of International Education or Professional Practices. Each is designed for a specific audience to meet a broad range of experience levels.

Foundations of International Education

Foreign Educational Credentials Analysis Education Abroad Advising

Cost: $260 members; $410 nonmembers
(includes lunch on July 18)

Audience: Admissions professionals and recruiters with less than three years of experience in international academic credential evaluation and placement.

This 12-hour Foundations Workshop provides basic training in foreign credentials evaluation for individuals from universities and colleges.

Topics covered include: information needed to evaluate credentials, how to develop a resource library and support base, understanding the credit and grade conversion process. Note: Participants should bring a calculator.

Professional Practice Workshop

F–1 Regulations for Beginners
July 19, 2008 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.
Cost: $240 members; $390 nonmembers
(includes lunch)

Audience: Beginning international student advisers with up to 15 months of experience.

This introductory workshop offers participants the basic theoretical and practical knowledge and skills needed to advise international students on F-1 visa matters.
