Bologna Task Force Meeting Summary November 2006

The NAFSA Bologna Task Force met November 12-13, 2006 to guide the association’s work in informing members about Bologna. The Task Force reviewed its charge, which stemmed from an executive committee discussion in April 2006. The direction for NAFSA’s work regarding the Bologna Process was defined as follows:

Goal: Consistent with its mission, NAFSA wishes to advance international education and exchange. In that context, it will promote approaches to the Bologna Process that result in enhanced mobility of students between the U.S. and EHEA.

…[W]e need to adopt specific strategies in segments, and for the next 12-18 months, our strategy will be: NAFSA will educate and inform members about the Bologna Process, by building a strong practice information system that facilitates the dissemination of authoritative information and promotes member-to-member support on Bologna issues.

During its meeting, the Task Force reviewed currently available information about the Bologna Process; discussed the recent Council of Graduate Schools (CGS) meeting at the Salzburg Seminar and the AACRAO Symposium on Three-Year Degrees; received an update on the European perspective from members in Europe; and considered the various audiences/stakeholders involved in the United States and their needs.
