Best Practices of the EducationUSA Information and Testing Center Riga, Latvia
By Anda Peipina and Gaston LaCombe
Collaboration with Web Portals
- Money Saver – if your advising center does not have an advanced web site with chatting, forum and sliding banners, you can arrange cooperation with other organizations who already have that.
- Public relations activity – you put information about your center in other places for more people to see it. Web portals are another communication channel to deliver the information about your center to reach the target audience. You promote your EAC by using other people’s resources.
- Advertising for free – every time you put information in a web portal you are collaborating with, you add the logo of your center that serves as another reminder of who you are and what you do.
TOEIC Test
- We offer an English language proficiency test meant for business people not just students, which indicates that we have broadened the range of services offered to our clients.
- By advertising this exam, we advertise all the other services we offer at our center.
- By offering the TOEIC test, we can get additional profit by organizing other fund-raising activities, such as selling TOEIC preparation classes and TOEIC preparation books.
The EducationUSA Foundation
Justification
- No other scholarships in Latvia available for undergraduate level studies in the United States, only Fulbright scholarship available for graduate studies.
- Students from the countryside are in a great difficulty to find money for their university level studies in Latvia not to mention studying abroad.
- Some organizations offer loans for studying.
- Many students are afraid to pursue studies in the United States because of preliminary costs involved, such as tests, traveling, preparation for tests, application fees.
Goals
- Support financially and informatively people living in Latvia who want to study in the United States and have shown initiative, leadership skills, knowledge and academic abilities.
- To give out scholarships to people living in Latvia and who have been invited to study in the United States, however, they do not have enough money for travel, insurance, supplementary living expenses, etc.
- Attract donors who would be willing to financially support this foundation and its goals.
Advantages to the EAC
- EAC becomes even more publicly recognizable for undertaking this philanthropic activity
- More students will use the EAC services.
- More students will consider studying in the U.S., consequently education in the United States will become more popular.
- EAC will act as a contributor to the development of the local civil society, as well as philanthropic culture.
- 10% of the total sponsorship money can be used for salaries and to cover administrative costs.
