The Economic Benefits of International Education to the United States: A Statistical Analysis

Annually, NAFSA calculates the economic impact of international students and their dependents on the U.S. economy. During the 2004-2005 academic year, NAFSA estimates that international students and their dependents contributed more than $13.29 billion to the U.S. economy.

Atlas of Student Mobility

The Institute of International Education's (IIE) Project Atlas tracks migration trends of the millions of students who pursue education outside of their home countries each year. Data are collected on student movement patterns, country of origin, as well as leading destinations for trans-national higher education.

Open Doors

IIE's Open Doors is a publication and Web site with comprehensive information about international students in the United States and about  U.S. students who study abroad as part of their academic experience. The book provides 96 pages of data on national origin, sources of financial support, fields of study, host institutions, academic level, and rates of growth of the international student population in the United States, as well as the economic impact of foreign students to the host state and national economies. IIE also offers links to student mobility data from other countries.
