Sponsoring and Programming Agencies
History
Sponsored student issues include admissions, English language training, international student advising, community interests, government and other sponsor regulations, and programming agent roles. Prior to 1989, there was no one existing section or group within NAFSA that could adequately address all of them. Therefore, a number of members petitioned NAFSA to establish a Professional Educator’s Group (PEG) that would respond to these special concerns associated with sponsored students. As of January 2005, sponsored program issues became a part of the newly organized Recruitment, Admissions, and Preparation Knowledge Community (RAP).Mission
Sponsoring and Programming Agencies further the professional development of NAFSA members who work with sponsored students, scholars, and trainees, and serve as a vital link among the Association, the academic/training community, sponsors/donors, programming agencies, and global partners.Activities
Those interested in Sponsoring and Programming Agencies are encouraged to present workshops and sessions at the annual NAFSA National Conference and at the fall Regional conferences. There is a normally a Sponsoring and Programming Agency Town Meeting to give updates on activities to those NAFSA members interested in this subject. It allows the members to openly discuss issues and ideas for the future and to give out new and interesting information in the field. News from the RAP team is also presented. The SPA Basics Workshop is normally held at the National Conference every other year, and can be replicated for Regional or ad hoc training workshops.
The Sponsoring and Programming Agency Coordinator aims to maintain a working relationship with the Embassy Dialog Committee.
