The research community expects research to be rigorous as well as interesting and useful. International education researchers can benefit from being familiar with existing standards, some of which are listed below.

Ethical Standards of the American Educational Research Association
The American Educational Research Association's (AERA) Ethical Standards provide educational researchers with a set of codes and principles so that they maintain the integrity of their research. AERA's Ethical Standards apply to all levels and forms of education.

9 Principles of Good Practice for Assessing Student Learning
The 9 Principles of Good Practice for Assessing Student Learning, originally developed by the American Association for Higher Education (AAHE) Assessment Forum, provide higher education researchers and other parties interested in outcomes assessment with a guiding set of standards. AAHE has not been in operation since 2005; the authors of the 9 Principles are Alexander W. Astin, Trudy W. Banta, K. Patricia Cross, Elaine El-Khawas, Peter T. Ewell, Pat Hutchings, Theodore J. Marchese, Kay M. McClenney, Marcia Mentkowski, Margaret A. Miller, E. Thomas Moran, and Barbara D. Wright.

To suggest additional standards to be added to this list, please send an e-mail to the network manager including a link to the standards and one to four sentences explaining why they are important for international education researchers.
