2011 Region X Conference

Region X 2011 Conference: Global Reflections, Local ConneXions

November 6-8, 2011
The Sagamore
Bolton Landing, New York
Conference Program (2.8mb Adobe PDF)

This year's conference will be held November 6-8, 2011 and will be a bit different in terms of setting, theme and attire. The conference begins at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 6th and pre-conference workshops begin on Sunday morning. We will be in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains at The Sagamore historic resort, located in the Lake George area and in Bolton Landing, New York. With our conference theme of Global Reflections, Local ConneXions, we will be having an informal conference, surrounded by the beauty of the area, the lovely hotel setting and in the company of fellow international educators as we reflect on the last decade and envision the future of our profession through networking, insightful discussions, sessions and workshops. Dress is indeed casual! In fact, jeans, sweaters, etc. are encouraged for everyone attending, exhibiting and presenting!

We have over 35 sessions to offer, two home-grown workshops (in addition to the more traditional ones), and a special film screening on Sunday. We also have knowledge community and special interest group sessions, as well as some unique activities planned. For people who attended the 2003 Region X conference at The Sagamore, you will be in for a real treat this year. The hotel has since renovated and includes a recreational area and a fire pit for roasting S'mores (weather permitting).

The conference kicks off on Sunday, so why not consider getting to the area on Saturday to enjoy the setting and get ready to network with colleagues early? Take a look at the variety of pre-conference workshops that start Sunday morning. There will also be a special event for Newcomers and for those interested in learning more about NAFSA at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, followed by the Exhibit Hall opening from 7:30-9:30 p.m.

9/11 Plus Ten A Conversation about Recent Developments and the Future of International Education in Region X

This years conference theme promotes the concept of reflection on the tenth anniversary of 9/11 how international education has evolved since 2001 and how we have grown as practitioners to serve the needs of our students and scholars as well as our institutions.   This workshop really a conversation is an opportunity for us to exchange ideas in a pan-NAFSAn setting about how our field has responded to post-9/11 challenges, how these responses have affected our work as international educators, and whether we may need to take our field in new directions in order to realize our goals.
