Five New Members to Join Board of International Educators Association
WASHINGTON, November 16, 2006 – Five leaders in international education from across the country will join the board of directors of NAFSA: Association of International Educators in January. NAFSA’s board, composed of six officers and twelve members, guides the work of the association. Six board positions are filled each year – four through a national election, and two through election by the sitting Board.
NAFSA: Association of International Educators is the world's largest professional association dedicated to international education. With more than 9,000 members, NAFSA seeks to increase awareness of and support for international education and exchange in higher education, government, and the community, believing that citizens with international experience and global awareness are crucial to U.S. leadership, competitiveness, and security.
The newly elected members of the NAFSA Board of Directors are:
Everett Egginton, New Mexico State University
NAFSA President-Elect (board term begins Jan. 2007; presidency begins Jan. 2008)
Dr. Egginton, currently the Dean for International and Border Programs at New Mexico State University, has worked as an international educator for over thirty-five years. His extensive background in Latin America includes experiences both as a Peace Corps Volunteer and as a Fulbright Scholar, among other notable experiences. He serves on the Board of Trustees for the Sister Cities of Las Cruces and co-chairs NMSU’s Internationalization Committee.
Joy Stevenson, University of Central Missouri
NAFSA Vice President, Member Relations
Dr. Stevenson serves as the Interim Director for International Programs at the University of Central Missouri, where she has been working in the field of international education for more than twenty years. She previously served as the President of the Rotary Club in Warrensburg, Missouri, and as the Vice President for the Phi Beta Delta Honor Society. Currently, she is also the Director of the Maastricht Consortium for Transatlantic Studies.
Bob Ericksen, University of California, Los Angeles
Member, NAFSA Board of Directors
Mr. Ericksen has served the field of international education for the past thirty years. He is currently the Director of the Dashew Center for International Students and Scholars at the University of California, Los Angeles. His work in the field of international education started during his time as a Peace Corps volunteer in Iran. He has also served on the Board of Directors for the Phi Beta Delta Honors Society.
Peter M. Robinson, United States Council for International Business
Member, NAFSA Board of Directors
Mr. Robinson currently serves as the President of the United States Council for International Business and has long been involved in international education. He previously served as a Director for the American Institute for Foreign Study as well as on the Board of Trustees and the Board of Directors for the American Field Service Intercultural Programs, through which he was an exchange student to Austria in high school. Mr. Robinson is also currently a Fellow of the Foreign Policy Association and serves on the Board of Directors of WAND, Inc., a global B2B directory technology company.
Susan Thompson, University of Nevada, Las Vegas
Member, NAFSA Board of Directors
Since 1990, Ms. Thompson has served as the Director of International Programs at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas. She is a recipient of the national Lily von Klemperer award from NAFSA for her service and leadership in field of international education. She has also served on the Board of Directors for the Nevada Committee on Foreign Relations, working to raise recognition for the importance of international education in the state of Nevada. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the University Studies Abroad Consortium.
