Virginia Tech Tragedy
A tragedy of unprecedented scope was visited upon a peaceful campus in Blacksburg, Virginia, yesterday when 32 individuals lost their lives at the hands of a gunman who then took his own life. "NAFSA, along with the entire higher education community, is grieving over the senseless loss of so many lives. The tragic shootings on the Virginia Tech campus yesterday have shocked us all and our thoughts and prayers are with the entire community of Virginia Tech as they try to deal with their unfathomable sorrow," said Marlene Johnson, NAFSA's Executive Director and CEO.
Details of the shootings are still uncertain. NAFSA.news will continue to follow the story as it unfolds. The Virginia Tech Web site is carrying updates as they become available.
