NAFSA has announced that it will establish a task force to examine institutional management issues in study abroad and recommend guidelines in this area.

U.S., Chile Sign New Scholarship Agreement
On August 8, the United States and Chile signed the U.S.-Chile Educational Scholarship Agreement, allowing up to 100 Chilean Ph.D. students to attend U.S. universities over the next 10 years.


Education, State Departments to Lead U.S. University Delegation to Chile and Brazil
Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Academic Affairs Thomas Farrell will lead a delegation of eight U.S. university presidents to Chile and Brazil, August 18-24, 2007.


Comments Due August 21 on Proposed Exchange Visitor Fees
Public comments are due by August 21, 2007, on the Exchange Visitor Program fee changes and increases that the Department of State's Office of Exchange Coordination and Designation (ECD) proposed on June 22, 2007.


EVENTS AND DEADLINES
Sponsor U.S. Electronic Education Fairs
Deadline 3 p.m. August 27, 2007. Accredited U.S. colleges and universities are invited to sponsor the China and India Internet landing pages of the U.S. Electronic Education Fairs. The fairs are scheduled to commence on or around September 15, 2007.


Register for GOT IT? Webinar Wednesday
Registration deadline September 11, 2007. Two international educators and an information technology specialist will share how technology uses have helped to run their institution's IE office more effectively and efficiently. Attendees will be able to explore technology discoveries as well as pose relevant questions.


Nominate Your Institution for 2008 Simon Award
Deadline November 30, 2007. Gather a team--administrators, faculty, leaders, and others--to nominate your institution for NAFSA's Senator Paul Simon Award for Campus Internationalization. Be recognized for your internationalization efforts.


Fellowship for Threatened Iraqi Scholars
Applications accepted year-round. The Institute of International Education's Scholar Rescue Fund (SRF) is working to provide fellowships to scholars in Iraq whose lives and work are threatened. To apply for a fellowship or host an SRF Iraq fellow, e-mail SRFIraq@iie.org.


Resources on Interest-Free Student Loans
Applications accepted year-round. The Rowe Fund is the student loan program of the Organization of American States. It awards interest-free loans to qualified persons from Latin American and Caribbean countries to help finance graduate, postgraduate, and the final two years of undergraduate studies at accredited universities within the United States.
