Vicente Fox to Speak at NAFSA Conference in Washington, D.C.
Vicente Fox, president of Mexico from 2000 to 2006, will kick off NAFSA's 2008 Annual Conference in Washington, D.C., as opening plenary speaker on Tuesday, May 27. President Vicente Fox is known as a visionary leader with a deep understanding of the economic and social challenges facing Latin America. He is one of the world's most important voices on the contemporary geo-political landscape and the role of business in the developing world. President Fox will sign copies of his autobiography, Revolution of Hope: The Life, Faith and Dreams of a Mexican President, during the conference.

New Report on Globalization and Education
A new report from The Center for Studies in Higher Education at UC Berkeley summarizes recent discussions on international models, the global market for students, and the increasing value society places on universities to stimulate economic growth and socio-economic mobility. The report is titled A Reflection and Prospectus on Globalisation in Higher Education.

A revised and streamlined edition of Cooperating with a University in the United States, NAFSA's Guide to Interuniversity Linkages is now available from NAFSA. Serving as a practical guide for representatives of foreign universities wanting to cooperate formally or informally with a U.S. university, it can also help U.S. universities realize their goal of preparing students for an international 21st century workforce. It includes updated statistics on the U.S. higher education system, Carnegie Classification of Institutions, public and private institutions, developing linkages, and new sample agreements.

Update: Spanish Student Visas within Normal Processing Times |

The Education and Science Commissioner at the Spanish Embassy reports that as of January 9, 2008, student visa processing times are back within the normal one-month processing times. All visa applications should be approved and ready to send or to pick up one month from the date the application was submitted to the consulate.

The Intercultural Activity Toolkit is a collection of hands-on, group-oriented activities that can be used by international educators with the goal of internationalizing the campus. Submit your best and favorite programs and activities by January 18, 2008, so that we can grow the toolkit to everyone's advantage.

International Education Conference in Berlin-Call for Proposals |

Session proposals due February 15, 2008. The European Federation for Intercultural Learning, along with the Friedrich-Schiller University of Jena, the Intercultural Research Institute of Milan, and AFS-Germany, has issued a call for proposals for a two-day seminar to examine research results related to educational impact and best practices to support exchange. The seminar will take place October 13-14, 2008 in Berlin.
