ASSOCIATION NEWS
New NAFSA Board Member Elected
On July 1, the NAFSA Board of Directors elected Francisco Marmolejo to fill the board seat left vacant due to the passing of Bob Brennan. Marmolejo is executive director of the Consortium for North American Higher Education Collaboration (CONAHEC), a network of more than 130 colleges and universities in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. He is also assistant vice president for Western Hemispheric Programs at the University of Arizona. Marmolejo has been active within NAFSA Region II leadership.


Session Handouts Available Online
Handouts from sessions at NAFSA's 2008 Annual Conference in Washington, DC, are now available online.


Summer Reading for International Advisers, Students
For the fourth consecutive year, International Educator has developed a compendium of books for international advisers and their students. Other highlights in the July/August 2008 issue include a cover story on private higher education in South America, an interview with Princeton University President Shirley Tilghman, and a column on the emergence of blogging in education abroad.


GOVERNMENT AND PUBLIC AFFAIRS UPDATE
Exchange Visitor Program Terminates J-1 Flight Training Program Designations
Effective June 1, 2010, the State Department will terminate the J program designations of all eight sponsors of J-1 flight training programs, having determined these programs "no longer further the public diplomacy mission of the Department of State."

Submission deadline August 1, 2008. Submit workshop, seminar, and session proposals for NAFSA's 61st Annual Conference & Expo, "Fostering Global Engagement Through International Education," in Los Angeles, CA, May 24-29, 2009.


Nominate Institutions for 2009 Simon Award
Deadline November 28, 2008. Nominate your institution for the Senator Paul Simon Award for Campus Internationalization. This award recognizes institutions for overall excellence in internationalization efforts as evidenced in practices, structures, philosophies, and policies. View previous winners and learn more about the nomination process.
