Accountability in Education: Lessons from Europe?
The Institute for Higher Education Policy argues that the United States should look to Europe for lessons on higher education accountability. Reported July 28 in both Inside Higher Education and The Chronicle of Higher Education (subscription required), the white paper looks to the Bologna Process to stimulate discussion in the United States. NAFSA's International Educator also reported on the European qualification framework in its July/August 2008 issue.

NAFSA Announces Annual Fund Raffle Prize Winners |
| |
Donors contributed close to $25,000 toward NAFSA's 2008 annual fund campaign during NAFSA's 2008 annual conference. NAFSA extends its congratulations to winners of the fabulous prizes raffled off in Washington, D.C. NAFSA thanks those organizations who generously contributed raffle prizes and would like to encourage others to spotlight their products and services by donating a raffle prize for the 2009 annual conference.

Vote to Advance Simon Bill Fails in the Senate |
| |
A Senate vote on July 28 to advance the Advancing America's Priorities Act, which included the Simon bill, failed by a vote of 52-40. Thank you to the nearly 900 people who sent letters to their senators in the past few days to support this legislation. We will keep you updated on future opportunities to support the Simon bill.

SEVP Q&As Provide Guidance on OPT Rule, SEVIS |

While the official updated Policy Guidance on the optional practical training (OPT) rule is still making its way through the government approval process, the answers to many of your questions are now available on NAFSA's Web site. NAFSA has posted the Q&A from the monthly July SEVIS Teleconference and a Quarterly Stakeholders Teleconference held in July, as well as transcripted answers from questions submitted for NAFSA's 2008 Annual Conference session titled "SEVIS Q&A with SEVP."

CampusFrance Resumes Two-Week Processing Times |

It's that time of summer again! After a brief period of delays, CampusFrance reports that processing times are back to the two-week turnaround time. CampusFrance also provides practice tips for advisers and students on planning the timing of applications and contacting CampusFrance.

In addition, the Nebraska Service Center will be holding its Quarterly Stakeholders Teleconference on Student and School issues.
