CIA Director Stresses Importance of Foreign Language Learning
In an address to educators attending the CIA Foreign Language Summit, which was held last week at the University of Maryland University College, CIA Director Leon Panetta said that multilingualism is key to U.S. economic interests, diplomacy, and national security, according to a report in Diverse: Issues in Higher Education. He called for the United States to require foreign language study at an early age, and said that language training should be a college graduation requirement.
