1. Community Volunteer Award

Purpose: to recognize important and significant contributions of unpaid volunteers, who support international initiatives both on campus and within the local communities in Region VII.

Criteria

Recipients typically promote international education on a community level and have a profound impact on the individuals and/or campuses they serve. Additionally, awardees often serve as role models for emulation and help encourage involvement of community organizations within the region. Self-nominations will not be accepted.

Specifically, awardees should be individuals or groups who have served in a volunteer capacity related to organizing and implementing programs for international students, scholars, or spouses, or study abroad students in the local community. Recipients will also have supported the work of local educational institutions and demonstrated excellence in fostering international exchange in the local community through leadership in a community organization.

This award will be presented each year to individual(s) or group(s) residing in the same state where the annual Region VII conference is being held.

Nomination & Application Procedure

For this award, nominations will be limited to individuals from the state hosting the Region VII annual conference. All nominations must include the following:

  1. Completion of the online nomination form.
  2. A letter of nomination from a current Region VII NAFSA member that describes the qualifications of the nominee and attests to the individual’s / group's attainment of the award's purpose & criteria. The letter of nomination should be written by the individual who completed the online nomination form.
  3. One additional letter of support from an individual within the state where the annual Region VII conference is being held that year. This letter of nomination must come from an individual not affiliated with the nominee’s organization.

2. International Excellence Award

Purpose: to honor a highly experienced individual at the culmination of their career who has best exemplified the true spirit of international education.

Criteria

Nominees should be venerable international education professionals who have demonstrated outstanding leadership within their institutions, communities, and/or to NAFSA Region VII. Additionally, a recipient should best exemplify the true spirit of international educational exchange and be a NAFSA member with more than a decade of experience and service to the field. Self-nominations will not be accepted.

Nomination & Application Procedure

Nominations may be made by any Region VII member. All nominations must include the following:

  1. Completion of the online nomination form link.
  2. A letter of nomination from a current Region VII NAFSA member that describes the qualifications of the nominee and attests to the individual's attainment of the award’s purpose & criteria.
  3. One additional letter of support from a Region VII member, preferably from someone in a state other than the one in which the nominee resides.

3. New Professional Award

Purpose: to recognize an individual in the region who has made an outstanding contribution to international education through his or her enthusiasm, potential for leadership, and actual accomplishments in his or her institution or community and Region VII. The award was established in 1989 by the Region VII Team.

Criteria

To be eligible, the nominee may have no more than five years’ experience in the field and must be a member of NAFSA. Self-nominations will not be accepted.

Nomination & Application Procedure

Nominations may be made by any Region VII member. All nominations must include the following:

  1. Completion of the online nomination form.
  2. A letter of nomination from a current Region VII NAFSA member that describes the qualifications of the nominee and attests to the individual's attainment of the award’s purpose & criteria.
  3. One additional letter of support from a Region VII member, preferably from someone in a state other than the one in which the nominee resides.

4. Travel Grants

Advocacy Day 2018

Region VII is pleased to support 3 travel grants up to $750 each to defray the cost of travel and participation in NAFSA's Advocacy Day, 2018.

  • Deadline: All applications and supporting materials must be submitted by January 19, 2018 at 11:59 pm (midnight).

  • Awardees will be notified in time to register for the advocacy Day early bird savings rate (Feb. 20th, 2018).

Regional Conference 2017

Region VII will offer 10 travel grants in the form of FREE conference registration and up to $400 in travel expenses!
