New Procedures for French Visas

April 27, 2007. The small but dedicated staff at Campus France have updated their Web site with instructions on the new visa process.

As many study abroad advisers may know, students going to France for more than 90 days must first complete an application with CampusFrance, an office that is part of the French Embassy in Washington, DC. (Students going on short-term programs are exempt from this new requirement.)

The basic process involves registering with CampusFrance before they can apply for their visa at the appropriate French consulate.

Lawrence Bell, vice president for public policy and practice, participated in a liaison call with CampusFrance's Washington, DC, staff on April 11 to discuss this new visa application process. DeDe Long, point person for visas on Policy and Practice Committee's Education Abroad Subcommittee, and Mary Ryan Dando, chair of the Knowledge Community for Education Abroad Visas Subcommittee, also participated in the call to ask questions and to suggest enhancements to the CampusFrance Web site that would be helpful to advisers and their students.
