What's the difference between Get Liaison Help or Report an Issue?
Use Get Liaison Help if you are a P/DSO, A/RO, or other school official and would like assistance with an immigration-related case.

Use Report an Issue to inform NAFSA leaders and staff of your education abroad and immigration-related regulatory issues.

If you want help with a specific adjudication for a particular student, scholar, dependent, or employee, you would submit the request to Get Liaison Help. If you see an emerging trend or recurring pattern, you might also want to submit that to Report an Issue.

What types of education abroad concerns can I submit to Report an Issue?
Any problem or concern related to a government agency, regulation, policy, or procedure can be reported, either by using "Other" category or by using one of the following:
  • Financial Aid and Scholarships for Study Abroad - Title IV, Title VI, Lincoln Commission, NSEP, Gilman, Fulbright
  • Obstacles to travel - Complications with obtaining travel documents or visas, U.S. travel restrictions

What happens to my submission to Report an Issue?
you will receive an email within a week of your submission to let you know that your submission has been passed on to the appropriate subcommittee or issue point person. Leaders appointed by the Policy and Practice (P&P) Committee and NAFSA staff will read your input. You can follow how P&P uses input through the P&P Monthly Update. Additionally, at the end of the month, summaries of all submissions are posted to the IssueNet Monthly Update website, and a notification will be sent when your issue is posted.

How does Policy and Practice Committee prioritize the issues they receive?
The P&P Committee, public policy staff, and regulatory practice staff follow guidelines for prioritizing issues. Your submissions help them to measure the breadth and depth of the impact of regulations or policies on U.S. and international students, scholars, international faculty, and U.S. institutions.

How can I get involved?
Update the Public Policy and Regulatory Practice section of your Expertise Profile. Add all of the education abroad or immigration areas in which you would like to volunteer as a resource.

Join the Advocacy Centered Team (ACT) and watch for alerts from the Take Action Center.

Subscribe to one or more Discussion Forums and develop virtual person-to-person contacts and share questions and ideas about the day-to-day operations of your office.

Why was IssueNet's Get Liaison Help created?
A task force chaired by Ravi Shankar and including former CIPP-RRs from several regions—
James Leck, Tina Tan, Michele Stelljes, Jim Nesmith, and Dawn Renze Wood—developed the data elements and functionality for online case management.
How will I know my case has been received in Get Liaison Help? How do I communicate with my Regulatory Ombud about that case?
When you submit to Get Liaison Help, you'll receive a confirmation e-mail that the Regulatory Ombud has received your case. You can send additional updates and questions related to the case through the "case notes" function, and all of these exchanges are summarized in the "case history" for your convenience.
Why was IssueNet's Report an Issue created?
NAFSA's Policy and Practice Committee led the process and a task force of members chaired by Lisa Donatelli specified the data elements and functionality. After the test site was previewed by a large group of member-leaders who work in education abroad or with international students and scholars, their comments and suggestions were used to develop the current site.
