NAFSA: Association of International Educators, along with four colleague organizations, joined an amicus curiae (“friend of the court”) brief supporting the U.S. Department of Justice lawsuit against the controversial anti-immigrant law (H.B. 56) passed earlier this year in Alabama. The law includes a provision requiring primary and secondary schools to check the immigration status of newly enrolled students and bans illegal immigrants from doing business in the state. The case against the Alabama law is on appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
