Mentor Program
Join the NAFSA Region X and XI Mentorship Program!
Are you new to the field of international education and looking for advice on a professional challenge, brainstorming to develop a new conference presentation, or advice navigating the field?
Or, are you an experienced practitioner in international education and looking to expand your network, coach newer professionals, and share your expertise? If yes, then NAFSA’s Region X and XI Mentorship Program is for you!
About the Mentorship Program
As part of NAFSA’s commitment to providing professional development resources and facilitating networking opportunities, the Mentorship Program is a free program that pairs professionals in international education that are newer to the field with more experienced members of the field. This program is a way for newcomers to learn from their mentor’s expertise regarding a professional challenge, while both parties establish a meaningful connection and expand their networks.
Bigger and better!
This year, due to the collaboration and combined efforts of Region X and XI for the bi-regional conference this fall, the Mentorship Program has also doubled in size. Whether you’d prefer your match be based in the same geographical area as you, or if you’re looking for a match who can support you with more specific professional goals, there are greater opportunities for the 2023 program. NAFSA Regions X and XI span the states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
The program connects members who are active in a variety of fields including but not limited to:
- Education Abroad
- International Students & Scholars
- International Enrollment Management
- Campus Programming
- and more!
Time Commitment
Your time is valuable! The amount of time the mentor and mentee spend together will vary given the respective needs and schedules of those involved. We hope that mentors and mentees will be able to meet once or twice before the NAFSA Bi-Regional Conference in Montreal, and ideally once at the conference (although you do not need to be attending the conference to participate in the program!).
We hope that all newcomers and seasoned NAFSA members will take advantage of this opportunity to meet and share ideas in this unique way.
Next Steps
Registration for the Mentorship Program will open in the month of July. Pairing will occur in late August, and we will host a virtual welcome/kickoff event to the program in September.
