Award for Distinguished Service Recipients


The NAFSA International Education Award for Distinguished Service recognizes NAFSAns currently involved in association activities who have donated at least 10 years of distinguished service to NAFSA and who have acted as mentors to colleagues in all aspects of the field.

2018 Recipient

Fanta Aw, PhD, is vice president of campus life and inclusive excellence at American University in Washington, D.C. Aw has spent 25 years in higher education administration, most recently as assistant vice president of campus life. She advises American University leadership on matters related to campus internationalization; issues of inclusion; diversity and equity; and student engagement. Aw is also the School of International Service’s Hurst Senior Professorial Lecturer; she is the 2013 recipient of the University Award for Outstanding Teaching in an Adjunct Position. Aw served as president and chair of the NAFSA Board of Directors from 2013-2016.
