The following organization, which are independent of NAFSA: Association of International Educators, provides additional opportunities to network and access resources within your state as well as local communities.

Welcome to the Utah website! As the current NAFSA state representative and Chair of the Utah Board of International Educators (UBIE), our mission is to represent all relevant areas of academia, including study abroad and English as a second language, so that we can provide professional training and support to educators assisting international students in the State of Utah in an effort to improve their skills to successfully service this unique population. Although Board members must also be members of NAFSA, our organization serves international educators in Utah no matter their membership status or organization.

Each year in the spring, UBIE offers a two-day workshop covering a variety of training sessions dealing with current issues for educators in K-12, and higher education institutions. Attendees do not have to be a NAFSA member to join our workshops or trainings! Usually over 100 people attend this event to learn, share, and network.

Although we email past workshop attendees and schools approved by SEVP to inform them of UBIE developments and upcoming events, we encourage you to visit our website at www.utahbie.com. There you will find information on upcoming workshops, past workshops, NAFSA resources, and details on our Board members. If you would like to be added to our email list, please let me know at [email protected].

We want you to know, UBIE strives to assist individuals and groups in their fields of expertise to educate, inform, encourage, and assist as much as possible while fulfilling our own duties at our places of employment. Our state organization is nonprofit and our Board members not paid.

If you are a Facebook member, please "like" the "Region II NAFSA" Facebook page at www.facebook.com/RegionIINAFSA. The Facebook page is a great location for the posting of up-to-date messages regarding the Region II Conference, travel grants, and other relevant Region II information.

We on the Board serve because we value education and want to strengthen and help others in our fields in the state of Utah! Please let us know how we can help you or new employees within your organization become better trained. Strengthening individuals and organizations within the industry strengthens the education industry in Utah, benefiting everyone.

Please do not hesitate to contact one of us with questions or concerns, and please take advantage of all we have to offer. We’re here to help!

Respectfully,
David J. Settle, Ph.D.
