Honorary membership is awarded by the association and conferred by the Executive Committee on non-NAFSA members whom the association wishes to recognize for distinguished service to international education. Lifetime, but non-voting, membership benefits and a plaque are presented at the national conference or on other occasions as appropriate.

Distinguished service to the field.
Nomination Procedure
Written presentations of the candidate must be submitted by at least three members from three different regions of the association. Specific reasons for the nomination must be included. Successful nominations are selected by the Awards Committee and forwarded to the Executive Committee for approval.
