Speakers

yaneth gihaYaneth Giha

Yaneth Giha is director of Colciencias, the Colombian government's administrative department of science, innovation, and technology. Giha joined the organization to address the challenge of integrating scientific knowledge, technological development, and innovation to build the social, economic, and cultural development of Colombia and position the country as one of the leaders in science, technology, and innovation in Latin America. She has a degree in economics from Los Andes University and a master's degree in political studies from Javeriana University and another in war studies from King's College in London. With more than 20 years of experience in the public and private sectors, Giha has held positions requiring high-end leadership and managerial skills. On the public side, she held the role as vice minister of defense and director of science and technology of the Colombian Ministry of Defense. In the private sector, she held the position of director of innovation at the Bogota Chamber of Commerce and general director of the Leadership and Management Center.

Guillermo Hernández Duque Delgadillo

Guillermo Hernández Duque Delgadillo is the general director of strategic partnerships at the National Association of Universities and Higher Education Institutions, a nongovernmental organization responsible for creating programs and policies to strengthen the development of higher education for 180 universities and institutions in Mexico. He began his career as a professor in 1979, teaching at the secondary and tertiary levels in Mexico, France, Sweden, and the United States, and has worked in research and development for national and international companies and universities since 1983. He was founder and rector of the Polytechnic University of Aguascalientes from 2002 to 2008, and a member of the National Research System, the major research association in Mexico, from 1992 to 2009. Hernández has more than 30 years of international experience in research and development; higher education leadership; teaching; and international education programs and partnerships in North America, Latin America, Europe, Israel, China, and Japan. He received his master’s degree in metallurgy and material sciences from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and holds a PhD from the Université de Technologie de Compiègne in France.
