On October 10, 2010, VeriSign migrated its public root certification authorities for Digital IDs for Secure Email Certificates from 1024–bit RSA keys to 2048-bit RSA keys. NAFSA informed SEVP that members were reporting SEVIS interface problems due to the new certificate standard, and SEVP looked into the matter.

SEVP has advised NAFSA that on Friday, October 23, 2010, ICE OCIO/AHS updated SEVIS with the new root certificates, that subsequent tests with the new VeriSign class 1 certificates were successful, and that the SEVIS Help Desk is going to follow up with some of the users that reported the problem to verify that things are working on their end.
