Meghna Ramaswamy, PhD

Dr. Meghna Ramaswamy joined the University of Saskatchewan in 2018 as the Director of the International Office to advance the international portfolio for the university. She is a strong advocate for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the role it plays in International Education. She has authored numerous papers on zero hunger, interdisciplinary research, partnerships for the goals, transformative leadership, and international education.

In 2021, the Minister of Advanced Education at the Government of Saskatchewan, Canada, recognized Meghna for her outstanding leadership on international education for the province. In the same year, the Canadian Bureau for International Education recognized Meghna for her leadership, dedication and valuable contribution to International Relations Learning Communities in Canada. Under her leadership, the International Office at the University of Saskatchewan also received the prestigious 2021 Education for Sustainable Development Recognition Award by the Regional Centre for Excellence in Saskatchewan. Meghna also serves as the Vice-President of the Saskatchewan Council for International Cooperation, an NGO focused on advancing sustainable global development. She is also a board member of the APLU Commission on International Initiatives, the Association of Commonwealth Universities for Higher Education and SDGs and the Indo-Canadian Education Council.

Prior to joining the University of Saskatchewan, Meghna led the Centre for AIDS Reagents at the National Institutes of Biological Standards and Control, a government health agency, in the UK where she orchestrated key partnerships with the European Commission, the World Health Organization, the National Institutes of Health and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. She is a scientist by training and has received over $19 million in grant funding. Meghna has a BSc degree in Microbiology from Kings College London, a MSc degree in Virology from The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and a PhD in Clinical Infection from University College London. In her spare time, she enjoys birding and collecting antiques.
