Special Plenary Discussing: #YouAreWelcomeHere

This year's plenary will showcase the #YouAreWelcomeHere campaign, which was created right here in Region VIII. Over the past 10 months it has grown into a nationwide initiative reassuring international students around the world that our institutions are diverse, friendly, safe and committed to student development.  As of September 2017, over 300 colleges and universities are participating. Our panelists will detail how the campaign began, discuss the impact it's made on their campuses, and what's next. Whether you are new to the campaign or already an active participant, we trust you will find inspiration in this presentation.

The NAFSA Region VIII team is pleased to offer for a third year an affordable workshop focused on entering into and networking within the field of international education. The fee for the workshop is $50 and conference registration is not required to attend the workshop and the Newcomers session which follows. If participants intend to stay for the full day and attend other sessions, they will need to register for the conference. Participants are encouraged to join the conference newcomers session at 1 pm.

The field of international education encompasses a wide variety of areas, organizations, and individuals. Join us for a half-day workshop facilitated by individuals from the region who work in Education Abroad and with International Students & Scholars, at universities, private companies, and governmental organizations. Revisit your own skill set; discuss the benefits and challenges of transitioning to a new role or joining the field; and learn from fellow participants through interactive activities.

Workshop Objectives:

  • Identify the various constituents and organizations related to international education
  • Articulate their personal experiences and education to market themselves to a future employer
  • Begin establishing solid professional networks in the international education community
  • Expand your knowledge of rewards and challenges in the field of international education
