I've got a secret. I know what you're thinking - this is not a gossip blog, but hear me out. A group of local NAFSA attendees is planning a special surprise for the NAFSA 2011 Annual Conference & Expo. They are looking for other attendees to join in on this unique event. Their plan is to break into a dance during the opening reception on Tuesday, May 31, in NAFSA's very own flash mob!
What's a flash mob, you ask? Public spaces such as university campuses, train stations, and even buses are serving as performance stages where amateur dancers (or singers) emerge from among unsuspecting crowds, do a quick performance, and then disappear back into the crowd. It's a global phenomenon!
The theme of the NAFSA flash mob is "Rain." It is our way of doing a rain dance to keep the skies clear for the conference. Even if you've never participated in a flash mob, it is easy and fun and we encourage you to join in.

Carol Zachs is the Local Arrangements Committee (LAT) communications chair for NAFSA’s 2011 Annual Conference & Expo. After completing an internship in 2000-01 at the University of Aarhus’ International Secretariat in Denmark, Carol has worked in the field of international education ever since. Currently, she serves as the manager of study and research abroad at the University of British Columbia, where she is also completing graduate work in education. Originally from Mexico City, Carol has been a Vancouver resident for the past 24 years. Carol looks forward to showcasing what Vancouver has to offer to all of the conference attendees.
