Michelle Soledad, PhD
Michelle Soledad is the director of communications and international engagement in the Department of Engineering Education at Virginia Tech, where she is responsible for directing the Rising Sophomore Abroad Program, developing and implementing communications strategies, and identifying, developing, and supporting opportunities for international engagement and collaboration. She holds degrees in electrical engineering (BS, MEngg) from the Ateneo de Davao University in Davao City, Philippines, and in engineering education (PhD) from Virginia Tech. Michelle’s professional experience includes roles in industry and academia. She worked as a software engineer for Accenture and as service excellence manager for Fresh Studio Innovations Asia, overseeing human resources, accounting, and information technology operations. She then joined the faculty of the Electrical Engineering Department of the Ateneo de Davao University, where she last held an appointment as assistant professor for electrical engineering before pursuing doctoral studies at Virginia Tech. She also served as chair of the Engineering Sciences & Mathematics Department; chair of the Electrical Engineering Department; quality assurance liaison for the School of Engineering and Architecture; chair of the Ecoteneo Advisory Board; and member of the University Research Council during her tenure at the Ateneo de Davao University.
